International Worker's Memorial Day 'Light Up Purple' Campaign Update 2026
One of the most complete and detailed documents from the CWU which includes the history of the IWMD annual day of commemoration across the world, is that produced by Jamie McGovern, Health & Safety Policy Advisor for the Union.

It is not just in the North West. The campaign to light up public buildings in purple for IWMD each year is also taking place in the
North East as CWU have been campaigning on CWU's light up purple campaign and the newly added photos on the Sway webpage include these new locations who also agreed to #LIGHTUPPURPLEFORIWMD
Landmarks in the Northeast who ‘lit up purple’ for the very first time as part of the CWU Light Up Purple for IWMD Campaign.
The first is of Stockton Town Hall, this building is situated in the High St, which is the widest High St in the UK, all the lamp posts were also illuminated Purple.
The document shows plenty more buildings. Lets get even more lit up purple in 2027!
